Wonders of Stowmarket - No.5 - Street Furniture
In order to have a Regeneration Project, you must first have De-Generation. To create the latter condition, the main street of Stowmarket was festooned with assorted hardware, apparently to stop cars parking there. The effect resembles the sort of obstacles placed on beaches to deter landing craft.

Ten years later, the same body who put it all there - Mid Suffolk D.C - are proposing to "regenerate" the town by removing it. Maybe they can install it in Needham Market, although car parking is not deterred there, as it is in fact free.

What goes around comes around. Regeneration looks to be a good career path round here these days.

Comments:
As a native of Stow I left in 1960 I am horrified at what has happened to my home town. I have lived in Spain for some time and they have held onto their historical buildings. We are holding them in trust for future generations.Who are these vandals who have wrecked what was a prety little town.what about the Kings Head it had stood there for 300 hundred years where is it now.there is nothing we can do now only get rid of these incompetent bafoons and elect a council with some forsight.

Stowmarket - once-pretty market town that over the years has been let down at times by its own citizens, the developers, the County Council and its own Town Council - but always, and consistently by the District Council, Mid Suffolk DC, based out of sight and sound of its policies, in the very pretty and very salubrious village of Needham Market.
